CYCLOPS
2016 | 38 x 51 cm
IN A PRIVATE COLLECTION
Mixed media painting by Lennart Pihl. Created at the same time as the painting “Cold” and they can be seen as twins. Cyclops was given its texture with different papers pasted on thick board that once was part of a soviet cabinet. Paints used are mostly acrylic, but there are also pens, pencils and markers used.
The painting is quite abstract, featuring a textured surface with various shades of black, gray, and white. It has a rugged, almost geological appearance, with cracks and crevices that give it a sense of depth and complexity. The textures and colors evoke a feeling of a weathered, ancient surface, resembling a rocky landscape on a seashore. The abstract nature of the painting creates an impression of mystery and timelessness.
“From the twilight of the ages, a legend can still be heard of a one-eyed giant, to reach whom one must cross a vast amount of open sea full of unprecedented weather phenomena and sea creatures. There is no place rockier than the Cyclops' home island and its shore has bitten even the most experienced sailors.”
The painting “CYCLOPS” has been to various exhibitions.
