VICTORY

2018 | 94 x 132 cm

Mixed media painting by Lennart Pihl. Painted on MDF board with various paints, wood stains, varnishes, and aerosols. Finished with boat varnish for easy cleaning without damage.

The painting features an abstract composition with three vertically elongated figures. The background is a mix of yellow, brown, and gray tones, creating a textured and layered effect. Dark, dripping lines run down vertically, adding a sense of movement and depth. The figures are obscured, giving the painting a mysterious and somewhat somber atmosphere.

The figures appear on a battlefield as victors, but at the same time, they represent the deformed versions of who they once were. The yellow mist behind them can be seen as fire or fear of something elemental. The idea behind this piece is dark yet insightful: war should be avoided at all costs. When the goal becomes destroying each other rather than working out differences, there are no victors—everyone loses.
