TARGET

2016 | 22 x 34 cm

Mixed media painting by Lennart Pihl. Made of recycled PVC boards and canvas. Created using acrylic paint, markers, corrector and covered with boat varnish.

The image depicts a point-of-view of an AI system analyzing what seems to be a piloted military mech that is in a cloud of smoke. There are lines drawn on the target as the shape, size and motion are being calculated. Sides of the image or view are blurred or out of focus hinting at limited information by the hunter in this case. There are features visible that indicate threat, but no weapon or payload. Also, it’s obvious that much of the machine is not visible. The moment is captured milliseconds before a decision is made - is it a fried or foe?

Various reproductions of the painting “TARGET” have been made, among them a rather large one compared to the small original, which was installed in a light box at a bus stop.
